How to Use This Guide
If you are staying near West Lake and want a short, accessible hike without a long journey, these trails are the best options within easy reach of the lake area. All are reachable by metro or a short taxi ride, require no special equipment, and can be completed in under 3 hours at a relaxed pace.
Baoshi Mountain West Lake View Walk
Distance: ~2 km | Duration: 1–2 hours | Difficulty: Easy
The most accessible hike from West Lake. Baoshi Mountain rises directly behind the lakeshore, offering the classic postcard view of the lake with Baochu Pagoda in the foreground. The trail is a short paved walk to the summit — more of a hill climb than a wilderness hike, but the payoff per step is unmatched. Metro Line 1 or 3 to Wulin Square station, then a 10-minute walk.
Longjing to Nine Creeks
Distance: ~6 km | Duration: 2–3 hours | Difficulty: Easy
A gentle walk through Longjing's tea terraces descending into a shaded stream valley. Mostly flat or gently sloping, with well-defined paths throughout. Starts in the historic Longjing tea village and finishes at Nine Creeks. Reachable by metro + bus or a short taxi ride from West Lake.
Longweiba Pond Family Loop
Distance: ~5 km | Duration: 2–4 hours | Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
A compact loop in Longwu's tea country — a short journey from West Lake by metro + bus. The trail visits a small reservoir, bamboo forest, ridge pavilion, and a stream, all within a 5 km circuit. Suitable for families with children and casual walkers.
Planning Your Visit
All three trails above work well as half-day outings from West Lake. Start early to avoid crowds and the midday heat, carry water and snacks, and save the Chinese place names from each trail's 'Chinese Names to Copy' card before setting out.
